From the Campus Progress Journalism Training Summit
We ventured forth into the streets of Washington, D.C., armed with nothing but a flip cam. The sun bore down on us and we hadn’t a clue what to do. UNTIL… we spotted a pigeon. And then another. And another.
And inspiration struck.
We decided to capture the pigeon in its urban habitat. We questioned people on the streets about this species of bird that seems to be infiltrating the streets of D.C. And we learned that pigeons have a hard life here in the cit. Nobody likes them very much. In fact, one man we talked to referred to them as “flying rats.”
And so here, we have attempted to capture this feeling of disdain in our video project, aptly dubbed — what else? — “Flying Rats.” We can only hope that we have truly caught the essence of pigeons’ life in Washington, D.C.
